DAY OF ARRIVAL DETAIL

Car Rental: We highly recommend a 4WD/AWD vehicle for mountain driving during the winter.

Quick tip: Grab groceries on your way in Conifer. It will save you a bunch of time.

Directions: Before leaving the airport or starting point, enter our home address into your rental GPS or your phone's Google Maps for the best directions (421 Holmes Gulch Rd. Bailey, CO 80421). We are about 1 hour 20 minutes from the Denver Airport. It is a beautiful drive so try to drive during the day! Expect to go from Highway 285 to a paved road to a dirt road.

You will have spotty service in the last 20 minutes of your drive but Google will keep the directions. On arrival, look for the 'Mueller's 421' wooden sign at the beginning of the driveway. Google says you arrive about 50 feet ahead of our driveway. Lastly, our driveway is steep so head on up and take a left to the garage at the top.

If you are travelling during snowfall, we will work to have our driveway plowed. However, if you run into troubles depending on your car contact us for assistance - 262-385-6094.

Private Entrance: Drive up to the double car garage door and align your car to pull in on the right side. There is a keypad on the right of the garage. Pull in the right side of the garage, it is two cars deep. The entrance is in the back right of the garage, go through the door and up the stairs to the left. Self check-in code will be provided closer to your stay as we change codes.

DAY OF DEPARTURE DETAIL

  1. Put trash in the garbage bins in the kitchen and downstairs.

  2. Put used dishes in the dishwasher and start it up.

  3. Consolidate and put used laundry (e.g. sheets) on the bathroom floors.

HOT TUB RULES

  • MANDATORY: Please take a shower before use! No face makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or deodorant in the hot tub! Water is a scarce resource in Colorado and cleaning to refill the hot tub is not a good use of it.

  • Use shoes or sandals to get to the hot tub and brush feet off before hopping in.

  • Be careful drinking by the hot tub. Place drinks on the deck, not the side of the tub.

  • Drink plenty of water! Sitting in the hot tub can be dehydrating.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENTERING THE TUB

  • Unbuckle the straps on both sides of the tub.

  • Go to the side closest to the house and flip that side over first.

  • Go to the other side and pull the cover towards you and place it onto the deck and against the tub.

  • Remove shoes / sandals before getting in.

  • Press the button furthest to the left to get the jets rolling. The jets automatically shut off periodically, just push this button again to restart them.

  • Press the first button the right of the display to turn on the lights. Press it again to change the light setting/color. Do not press and hold - this transitions into core settings.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR LEAVING THE TUB

  • The hot tub will turn the jets off automatically.

  • Get your sandals on, dry off and throw on robe.

  • Tiptoe to the cover. Grab the bottom in the center, lift up and over onto the tub.

  • Flip the other side over and clip the buckles on both sides.

  • DO NOT leave the hot tub without covering it.

10 ACRES TO EXPLORE

We are fortunate to own 10 acres of mountainside. This is available for both cabins to explore. There are a couple boulder outlooks - head out the wooden gateway and go up or down. Take a look at the map below. Feel free to wander but please be respectful of the neighboring homes - we all live out here to have privacy and quiet. There is also wildlife you may encounter: mule deer, fox, bear, and more. Most will scare off if they see you but be alert.

HEATING THE HOME

  • Summary: It can get cold in the fall, winter, and spring. Use the methods below to keep cozy!

  • Furnace heating

    • There is a control on the wall near the front bathroom. It is generally set around 67 degrees. Do NOT pump the heat up - only advance up to about 72 degrees. You will fry the downstairs. The furnace heating is a bit imbalanced due to the addition in early 2000. Use other methods we provide for individual heating as needed.

  • Space heaters

    • A space heater is provided in the TV room due to the furnace not distributing heat evenly to this area (future project for us).

    • Do not plug space heaters and other gadgets into one outlet. They have high output and can strain the electric outlets.

  • Upstairs wood burning stove

    • WARNING: THE STOVE GETS HOT DO NOT LET YOUNG CHILDREN TOUCH!

    • HOW TO START: Patience is required but many like the challenge. First consolidate kindling in the bottom center inside the main door. Stack and stagger wood over the kindle. The kindle will be used to help catch the wood stack on fire. When the fire starts to catch, you can close the main door with an inch left for airflow. When the fire is hot and rolling, then shut the door.

    • HOW TO STOP: Let the fire take its course and burn down. Keep the door shut. Do not dump water in the wood burning stove.

    • Running into issues? Give us a call!

  • Downstairs pellet stove

    • HOW TO START: There is a small panel on the right side, twist to about a ‘3’ and press the start button. It doesn’t light immediately, give it some time to get rolling. Set a reminder on your phone to turn it off later!

    • HOW TO STOP: Twist the setting to the far left to turn off.

    • EXTRA PELLETS: There may be more pellets in the closet by the door. You can open the top lid of the stove and dump more pellets in. Message us if you need more.

    • NOT CATCHING FIRE?: This could mean there is too much ash build up. Normally we clean it regularly but longer stays can create build up. Message us to clean it out.

COOLING THE HOME

  • Summary: It can get hot due to the altitude and windows in the upstairs. Most mountain homes like this one do not have AC. Use the methods below to keep airflow and cool.

  • Open doors on both ends for good airflow and slide the screen doors to keep out any animal visitors. There are some local dogs that show up to say hi.

  • There is the Newair unit that you can fill up with water, place a cooler pack in the water, and turn on. This thing is fantastic! It humidifies and cools.

  • Turn on the three ceiling fans for more airflow.

  • Open windows for additional airflow.

  • Use the box and small fan as needed by doorways or windows.
